Thank you to Carol of Just Let Me Quilt for sponsoring this blog hop. The hourglass shape is one that I really don’t do that much so this was fun. I wanted my quilt to be scrappy and the challenge was even greater to wrestle with these triangle shapes. My blocks were cut at 7″ and once making them into hourglasses they became 6″ and finally, sewn into the quilt they finished at 5.5″ to be just the right size for a generous baby quilt. I used an hourglass tutorial (by Allison of Cluck Cluck Sew) to help me utilize scraps and create a cheery design. She created an hourglass a day, which is an interesting concept. The best part of her post is an hourglass sizing chart that’s just the right tool to help you make use of your scraps and avoid having to do your own math. I love when I can dive in with minimal need to calculate measurements!

On a personal note, this has been a rough time. Two family members are getting over Covid at home and my father is in the hospital across the country. Time in a bottle turns out to be exactly how I feel lately. There just isn’t enough sand in my bottle and I’m feeling squeezed and honestly, a little anxious. All this in a week when we lost an hour due to Day Light Savings Time. What a nutty time it’s been and I’m sure this shall pass, but meanwhile it’s a lot!
All that said, I still managed to get a quilt top done. I barely had time to photograph and write this post but I did it! Mission accomplished! I love how the top came out all bright with primary colors. It very much reminds me of a baby quilt that I made years ago and quilted while pregnant with my first set of twins. Time does fly by and those “babies” are 27 now!! I haven’t seen the quilt in a long time but I’ll have to go dig it up and take a peak. Now I have a new quilt in progress to finish for some new bouncing baby.
Thank you for stopping by. Please check out the other fabulous finishes on our blog hop journey.

Very fun quilt top. It will be loved. Now take some time for yourself and just breath. OK now you can go back to worrying and caring for the family, but remember to take a couple of minutes and breath.

Selina, Thank you so much. I’m trying to catch my breath and yes…sewing is my time for myself. I really appreciate your support.

Very cute quilt and I loved the fabrics that you used. Oh I am sorry you are having challenges. My parents live across the country too, and this past year has been a challenge with them and their health–multiple hospitalizations, surgeries, COVID….Like you said this too shall pass.

Thank you for telling me that I’m not alone in this journey. I just came back this morning from a ridiculous 8 hour flight home. I made it to work and now can begin to recalibrate my sleep pattern. It’s not fun when we feel pulled in all directions.

Thank you so much. I am just back from visiting my parents in L.A. Everyone here at home is Covid-free. Life will hopefully calm down a bit now. I’m cleaning out emails ( 30,000 on my phone so it’s time to streamline and reduce incoming message) and finally getting back to everyone. I love our blog hops and really hope to stay on top of them, despite what comes my way.

You really accomplished a lot with making all those hourglass blocks, Elana, in spite of the struggles you’ve been dealing with. It turned out really bright and cheery! Did you say your “second set of twins”? Wow! I hope your life calms down and gets back to whatever normal would be. xo

Yes, my second set of twins!! I’m that crazy mom who went back for one more baby and got another set of multiples. They’re grown (sort of) now and launching their careers. It was a hectic few years for sure! I am feeling a little better having just come back from visiting my parents in L.A. I hope things stay calm for awhile. Thanks again. XOXO Elana

Karrin, thank you for stopping by. As for recovery…some and some. Covid is a beast even for my family members who were triple vaccinated. I can’t even imagine what it would have been if they weren’t inoculated. Thanks so much for the support.

I love the bright colors that you’ve chosen for your hourglass quilt! It seems that there’s never enough time, so good for you to choose self-care and spend some of that time quilting.

Thank you so much. Self-care means sewing time, right!? I’m hoping for that on my day off. Meanwhile, there really isn’t enough time. I can’t believe it’s almost April!

I hope things in your life start to settle down a bit for you. Covid has taken a toll on so many. Glad you were able to meet your own goal and finish your beautiful baby quilt through it all though. There is a little one who is going to absolutely love their quilt. Take care of yourself. Some days the hummmm of my sewing machine is just the medicine I need.

I just returned from California last night but have wanted to say thank you. Yes, the Covid situation is better, although my husband reports feeling very fatigued. I guess he’s lucky to be fully vaccinated and on the mend. I can’t wait to get this quilt finished but for now, I’m just happy to be home with only one new illness in the family.
