Sending love on Valentine’s Day

I like to sew for charity and Valentine’s Day seemed like the perfect time to make something cheery. I made 10 zippered bag sets for a New Jersey charity that helps new mom’s who are leaving domestic abuse situations,. The stress of being a new mom is already challenging. Top motherhood off with a partner who is abusive, and it’s unthinkable!! This is my little way of sending love to those anonymous women. I sewed these scrappy bags for them and had residents on the memory unit at my work make some cards. Practical and simple is how I think of these gifts bag sets. I hope they brought cheer to the women who received them.

Each zippered bag was unique and had a smaller pouch inside. You can just see a part of the card that went inside as well. I love that heart lining on the big bag. It’s very cheerful.
I made paper pieced hearts for the fronts of many bags. This bottom bag got triple the love!
Blue because not all women love pink!

I was so happy to send these off at the beginning of February. I admit to having kept one extra zippered bag, because I sewed the hearts upside down. Ironic, huh? The extra bag makes me smile every time I see it now. I’ve now moved on to other things. Next time I’ll show you quilt blocks that I’ve been working on.

    • Thanks Bernie. I really ought to finish quilts for my boys, but that hasn’t happened. I enjoy these little projects in between my full time job. There just isn’t enough time in the day, is there? Hope you’re well. Where are you guys moving too? I just love your photos of the property.
