Thank you to Joan for sponsoring this month’s “it’s a jungle” blog hop. I really appreciate all the work you put in to make these happen. This fun prompt had me excited right away.

The bundles of scraps are the BIGGEST jungle in my life. What to do with them? I can think of no better scrappy pattern than Bright Birch Trees by Amanda Jean of Crazy Mom Quilts? I’m sure you’ve seen it before but just in case you want a refresh, check out Amanda Jean’s past blog post here. Her pattern has become a classic and is both a scrap paradise and the perfect colorful forest.
I made a version of this quilt several years ago. However, I confess that I still save my little scrap pieces in ziplock bags because the pattern is always on my mind. Collecting tiny scraps often comes in handy, but you can never use them all up! We all know how they keep multiplying when we’re not looking.
Here’s my 40 x 40″ quilt top. It’s not finished yet, on purpose. It’s being donated to Cynthia of Quiltingismorefunthanhousework.com for her comfort quilt charity, Many Hands and Many Hearts. She will complete it with her bevy of volunteers. Here are some photos to show you the beautiful forest that results from green backgrounds and scrappy birch trees.

I will sneak a photo in here when it’s done. A donation quilt top is much less expensive to mail than one that is fully done. So I will send it as a top only.
Thanks so much for stopping by. This was a fun way to use up scraps but there are sooooo many more!!! Please check out the other blog hop posts here.
Jan 3, 2025 UPDATE: Cynthia of http://quiltingismorefunthanhousework.com posted this photo of my donated quilt top all completed. I love how it looks finished. Her Many Hearts and Many Hands charity has done so much good already. I feel privileged to participate here and there.

Thanks Gail. I wish I could say that it used up a lot of my scraps. There are still so many more that it’s embarrassing!

I wish I was able to toss scraps, but I can’t! Yes, the jungle is my favorite place to play with fabrics. I could spend the whole day sewing nonsense. I’m just grateful for the process of creating. Thanks for stopping by.

I’m terrible at saving quilt scraps, but this quilt would give me a good reason to do so. What a perfect way to get rid of your jungle of scraps and be able to donate it. Love it!

If only I wasn’t a scrap saver…my house would be so much better off. However, we are who we are, right?

I have this pattern but have never made it. You are right when you say it is a classic. I always LOVED Crazy Mom Quilt’s blog. Great choice for dealing with the tiny bits and pieces that come along.
I have started saving bits 2″ and less for my grand kids to use when they come over. A glue stick and a box of color keeps them busy making collages. 🙂

Thanks. It’s certainly not my original design but the colors and the cleverness of the sticks are just brilliant. I enjoyed making her amazing pattern. It isn’t the first one nor will it be the last!

I just went to your blog post and for some reason, I can’t comment there. So here I go giving you comments on my own blog…so sorry. I just had to tell you that your projects are so adorable. The plant is genius and the koala next to it is so sweet. You did such a great job on that plant that I was convinced it was real at first! Lovely post and thank you so much for sharing it with us. You’ve brightened my day with such cleverness!!!

Joan, give it a try one of these days! You will love the process. When I made my fish quilt (Quilting under the sea) , I used this method for the sea grass. It’s so useful when doing random art quilt designs.

Great way to use up scraps and make a donation to a worthy cause too. Such a colorful quilt with all those scraps. Wonderful that you can send tops and they will quilt them.

You’re so kind. Thanks. I can send anything and she will utilize it somehow. I like to send her the tops and let her work her magic, figuring out the completed sizes etc. This one should probably be given a border to round it up a bit. She can then do her thing.
