Color Stix Block Drive

I recently spent some time trying out a quilt block pattern for Cynthia of quiltingismorefunthanhousework.com. (Cynthia, are your ears ringing?) Lucky for me that I had some time to play with fabrics and work out the kinks for a new block request. She only recently started her new compassion quilt drive but it’s been keeping her quite busy already. The blocks have been pouring in and you must see her gorgeous finishes. Each quilt is so fun and represents loads of helpers.

The current block request is for a design that she is calling Color Stix Blocks. It’s an easy design that calls for 6 fabric strips. She’s asking for monochrome colors in each block but there is more than one way to make them. I won’t mention the requirements here but you can find it all on her blog that I’ve linked here. My only suggestion is to cut your strips longer at first and after sewing them together, only then trim the final block down to the 9.5″ size.

I made several blocks in advance and was eager to ship them to Cynthia for her to play with. However, I first had fun photographing them on my backyard fence. When I paired up similar colors, these blocks blew me away. Look at these beauties! The colors are incredible all together. I don’t know how Cynthia will arrange her blocks, but if they’re anything like my samples, her quilts will be gorgeous!!

I don’t really have a favorite from the samples above. I’m happy with each and every one. I was so happy to have tried assembling them, even just for a minute on the fence. Cynthia clearly had the right vision with this simple request that will be anything but plain in the end!!

The quilting community is terrific and please, no guilt if you’re busy with life and other sewing projects. However, do lend a hand if you can. Here’s the link to her blog again for your ease.

    • Oh yeah I was on a streak. This week I’ve got a nasty sinus something/cold and so the thought of sewing isn’t at all appealing. Isn’t it funny how our energy comes and goes!? Thanks for stopping by.
