Some Bunny Loves You

It’s my day (tuesday) to participate in the Black and White Blog Hop.  The challenge was to make something in black and white, with or without additional color.  I’ve been so into string quilts lately, that I needed little time to come up with an idea.

Given that I was doing string blocks, it was only a matter of which way to assemble them.  After some playing around with options, it finally hit me.  This heart design is the perfect way to arrange string blocks for a child’s quilt.  The black and white keeps the quilt design crisp and interesting, while the blue adds a focal point to the heart.  I’m calling it “Some Bunny Loves You” because it has playful black and white bunnies throughout the strings.  (Sorry, but I can’t recall the name of the fabric.) For those that don’t know, I have a thing for bunnies.  I count them along the side of the road while driving.  The best is a two or three bunny day!! Even better is a bunny quilt!
This quilt top isn’t yet quilted, but it’s all ready to go.  I love the simplicity and how welcoming it feels.  I will likely try another one of these, perhaps with a red or pink colored accent.  However, should I keep this one for a pile of baby gifts, or donate it to charity.  What a tough decision, although I rarely keep things and it’s time I get to see my things at home.  I promise to share the final result when I have it quilted.

This close up of the heart shows you some of the fun black and white fabrics.  The bunnies didn’t get in there, but trust me there are some hiding here and there throughout the quilt.

  3. How cool, I’d have never thought to layout a string quilt this way, it is definitely a fun layout and the hint of blue really makes that heart stand out. I am not sure you would see it as well if the blue wasn’t there. Fabulous!!

  6. I can share that wish. My longarm frame went in to storage and it looks like it will likely be sold. In the meantime I play with strings and other fabric, making quilts and bags! I have a 4 foot square sewing space after having a 14’ x 20’ studio so I am still adjusting!

    • Oh that’s too bad that the frame will be sold. I’m not sure how it works. You have a machine but then still need a separate frame? Do some come together? I am clueless, which may be a good thing at the moment when I can’t afford one.

      • I have a Grace frame that can be set up for crib quilts or extension pieces put in to make it possible to do a king size quilt. My Pfaff Hobby Quilter machine or my Janome Skyline S3 will both fit on the trolley part that moves along the frame. The downside to this set up is you only have 6- 8 inches of actual working space to quilt on. Then you have to advance the quilt to do the next section. It was one of the Grace Company’s earlier home quilting frames. My hubby requires a medical treatment which is not covered by our Canadian health care system so I am selling everything to raise money. We recently moved out of our house which had 3 bedrooms, one of which was my studio. I had room for the 16’ longarm frame. We now live in a cute little 600 sq ft apartment (no stairs and a walk in shower) which is easier for hubby to manage. He has MS. If you are looking for a suggestion on getting an affordable setup for yourself, I would suggest something like the Sweet Sixteen. If you are in America they are around $5000 and the throat space of the heart gives you plenty of working space to do your quilting; free motion, straight line or ruler work. It’s all possible. My frame is not a good one for any beginner or even an experienced quilter. It is possible to put a larger machine on it and I had planned on getting the Sweet Sixteen To Do just that but with our space limitations I am dreaming of a Sweet Sixteen with the Little Frame for my someday purchase. So my frame is listed for sale, with or without the Pfaff machine. If it doesn’t sell, it will have to become shelving in our storage room! 😝 Sorry for the ramble but I thought it might help you understand and I do like to offer advice being an old lady!

      • Old lady is more like experienced expert! I am so sorry about your hubby’s advanced medical issues. You are awesome to have a good attitude, even if it’s been hard. I hope you will get a buyer. Maybe someone will bite and then you can use the money for much needed care. Someday, hopefully, this country will learn to improve our access to affordable medical treatment. Best of luck to you.

      • Thanks! My oldest granddaughter says I’m older than dirt! I have been quilting by hand first and then with a machine for (gasp) 50 years now! As for my DH life is an adventure and I believe things will work out for his treatment.

    • You are so sweet. I will check out your site as well. I also can see this quilt design in other colors looking great as well. I just wish I had a long arm and these babies would be churned out like a factory!! I can’t stop with the string quilts and it’s becoming insane!

  14. Wonderful quilt! I love the addition of that blue – and the bunny story is adorable. We have a stretch of road we usually are on twice a week, we call Hawk Alley. There are always a few in the median strip on on interstate highway. I feel the same way about them as you do the bunnies!

    • Kathleen, Thank you so much for visiting. The Hawks must know something we don’t about the food chain there. I truly love seeing all the bunnies and some days there even seems to be a dozen or more. Last year we had a mother bunny give birth in our backyard and the tiny babies were the focus of our dog. We kept Annie inside and waited until Mom moved the bunnies. That was a close call. Meanwhile, it’s winter here now and nothing is stirring except a downed tree from our neighbor’s yard.
