Little Tulip Quilt

I was in Los Angeles visiting family last week.  I was lucky to grab some good buys at the nearby quilt store.  When I returned from my trip, in addition to it being much colder than when I left, I also noticed that many of my spring bulbs are coming up.   Now with flowers on my mind, I jumped back on my newly serviced Baby Lock Crescendo, grabbed some pink and purple scraps and created this little tulip doll quilt.  I threw in a few red scraps to keep things extra bold.  This may have been one of my fastest little creations and it was so therapeutic to make.  I am loving making these tiny quilts and trying new techniques, perfecting ideas and just playing with fabric.  I’m getting much better at machine sewing bindings.  With all the wear and tear that these tiny quilts may get, I really feel a machine stitched edge is the best way to go.  This quilt, of course, going to A Doll Like Me.

Tiny Tulip Doll Quilt, 18″ x 23″

I love seeing all those scraps lined up to create a little border around the pieced tulip.  I threw this together so quickly and just let my creative juices flow.  I’m continuing to use some bits of the donated fabric for all of my little doll quilts, so here on the back right side is a slice of that pink fabric again.  The orange flowered fabric was a scrap that I’ve had in my stash for awhile now.  I love the print but could never find a use for it until this tulip came along.  I am trying to label each of these quilts in a simple and quick manner,  so here goes a somewhat lopsided, but bright label.  I love the purple and bright pinks against the orange.  Next up I need to finish some of my student quilts but this was a chance to whip up something fun and carefree.

    • Louise, Thank you so much. It was truly a scrap inspiration, thus the mismatched backgrounds. I am having fun challenging myself to use up scraps to make these tiny doll quilts. I’m working on one now that was so different. I remain amazed that no matter how much scrap fabric I use, there never seems to be a dent in my stash!!

    • Thanks Kat. These are so fun for me to try out new things. I’m still working on my points and other skills but what a nice way to play and donate at the same time.
