Nine patch Equinox

According to today’s adorable Google doodle, this morning marked the 2017 Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere.  Even after looking up equinox in a dictionary, I’m still not exactly sure what it is.   I do like the part where it said that today is the first day of “Spring!”   Take a moment and check out the sweet Google Doodle with a little mouse dragging a giant daffodil.

Now, back to quilting….I have been dipping in to my “girly” scraps and I have a doll quilt to share. Sorry for the wrinkled look in my photographs, but this one had been folded for awhile.  Yeah, I know all the experts tell us to keep our quilts in ways so they don’t get dents.  These are small enough to have limited options.  Maybe I’ll roll them next time!

These tiny nine patches are so fun. I’m sure people make much smaller ones, but for me these 1.5″ squares seem very petite.  The small size allowed me to use the most forgotten pieces of some cherished fabrics. Many years ago, I made a bright baby quilt in a similar color scheme and layout.  I guess this is a new variation.  I am very excited at this Kaffe Fassett “spot fabric in orange gold with 1/4 inch dots in red” that I used for the
binding. His dot fabrics are great for anything, and you will see me using them again and again.

This is my scrappiest label to date.  Two nine patches with a little extra.  Can you tell that I got a little carried away with leftovers?!

For the backing, i went with some more scrappy fabrics .  I’ve kept up my pledge to use some of it in each doll quilt. You will see that I’m using every bit of the reproduction purple fabric that was donated by Rosemary.  I don’t keep reproduction fabric in my stash and a little of it has been fun to play with.  Enjoy your equinox day!
